This volume contains 9 families, 45 genera and 322 species. They arespread over a wide geographical and ecological range, from coastalmangroves to alpine herbs, from desert plants to submerged aquatics. Twofamilies, Haloragaceae and Thymelaeaceae, each contain over 100 speciesin Australia, the latter family including Pimelea (banjines or riceflowers). Onagraceae includes willow herb and evening primrose, whileCombretaceae includes the widespread tropical genus Terminalia. Otherfamilies in the volume are Podostemaceae (curious aquatic plants),Sonneratiaceae (mangroves), Lythraceae (tropical and temperate herbs andshrubs), Melastomataceae (tropical plants often with colourful flowers)and Gunneraceae (1 species in Tasmania). Several plants are heredescribed for the first time.
