This book is designed for botanists with interest in the traditinal useful plants of the islands. To remedy the lack of plants they needed, the Polynesians employed a strategy of transporting these plants (called 'canoe plants') with them in their voyaging canoes. Around 60 of the canoe plants were present in the first area of Polynesia settled (western Polynesia, i. . Samoa and Tonga). This book is primarily and ethnobotanical flora with profiles of 96 plants most important to the Polynesians (incl. the Fijians.)
