Historia de las Plantas en el Mundo Antiguo. 2009. Many col. figs. 478 p. 4to. Hard- cover.
Since mankind's earliest beginnings plants have played a central role in the cultural development of peoples. Texts on plants by Theophrasus, Dioscorides, Virgil, Ovid and Pliny the Elder, among others, have come down to us, their survival demonstrating their outstanding importance as documents for botanical and medical research. However, these works are a trove of other cultural and aesthetic values that have previously been little disseminated. This book aims to open up this space and turn its focus towards the more symbolic aspects of plants in the world of ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome, as well as references to them in the Bible.
