Fast Growing Trees and Nitrogen Fixing Trees. 1990. 81 figs. 41 tabs. XVI,396 p. gr8vo. Paper bd.
This volume summarizes the knowledge on the physiological and genetical basis for "Fast Growth" in trees as presented on an international conference in Marburg in October 1989. It includes chapters on other plant and cell systems which have been studied in mored etail concerning phenomena of fast growth. Special emphasis is given to the relation between N2-fixing and VA-mycorrhiza symsioses and fast growth in trees. Ecological and forestry impact of fast growing trees for preservation strategies of the world's forest areas as well as for reforestation is another major topic. As experts from temperate and tropical forest areas were invited, the contributions present an up-to-date survey of forest ecology world-wide.
