This monograph, intended as both a defense and a renewed foundationof Delpino's theory of natural flower categories, decribes for thefirst time the floral syndromes occurring within the South Africanflora, and the historical background of floral syndromes in general.The book, entitled 'Blütenbiologische Typen als Elemente der Sippen-gliederung, dargestellt anhand der Flora Südafrikas', was publishedin German in 1954. Readers should keep in mind that the publicationoriginated more than half a century ago, during a long period of relative dormancy of floral - biological research and with a scientificknowledge contrasting considerably with the present.
