"Bamboos of the World" commenced publication in 1983. The work is inprogress and appears in separate, independent volumes ("parts"). Thepresent reprint comprises those published between 1983 and 1987. Thework is a comprehensive compilation on bamboo species and basesprimarily on literature. The aims of the work, scope and arrangement, asstated in the Introduction, have, so far, proven well settled and arecontinued with only some slight modifications in format, and someextensions in coverage. The differences can be best perceived herein bycomparing one of the first parts, published 1983, with one of thosepublished 1987, e.g. Phyllostachys.
