A taxonomic treatment of Anacardium L., a Latin American genus of trees, shrubs, and geoxylic subshrubs, is provided. The authors recognize tenspecies,one of which, A.fruticosum Mitchell & Mori, is described as new.Data from several thousand herbarium sheets, extensive field work,SEM-studies of pollen and leaves, and a review of the anatomicalliterature forms the basis of this modern revision.
