Atlas of Common Plankton in Basongcuo, Xizang. 2026. illus. 233 p. gr8vo. Hardcover. - Chinese, with Latin nomenclature.
*Atlas of Common Plankton in Basongcuo, Xizang* presents the findings of a field survey and preliminary identification of plankton in Basongcuo (Lake Basong), located in Gongbo'gyamda County, Nyingchi City, Xizang Autonomous Region (Tibet). The book is organized into eleven chapters. Chapter 1 covers the structural characteristics of the plankton community in Basongcuo, detailing the scope, locations, and methodologies of the field survey, as well as the species composition and community traits of the planktonic flora and fauna. Chapters 2 through 7 provide an illustrated guide to common phytoplankton, while Chapters 8 through 11 cover common zooplankton. These sections describe the primary taxonomic units and key characteristics of common species (or genera) found in the lake, accompanied by full-color photographs. It should be noted that the number of species included in this atlas is lower than the total number of species collected during the field survey. This is primarily due to two reasons: ? The atlas focuses on common plankton; some rare species—particularly those encountered only once or twice and in very low numbers—were unsuitable for inclusion because the specimens were incomplete, decayed, or damaged. ? Certain planktonic organisms are so minute that their diagnostic features could not be clearly captured in photographs, rendering them unsuitable for use as illustrative images.
