Atlas of Compositae Plants in China. (Zhongguó jú ke zhíwù caisè tújiàn (shàngxià juan) = A Colored Illustrated Handbook of Asteraceae Plants in China). 2 volumes. 2025. illus. (col.). 1953 p. gr8vo. Hardcover. -Chinese, with Latin nomenclature..

Asteraceae (Compositae) is one of the largest families of higher plants, with more than 1,600 genera and 25,000 to 35,000 species worldwide. Asteraceae is one of the most widely distributed plant groups, distributed in any country or region. Asteraceae plants are also widely distributed in China, distributed in all regions, most altitudes and environments. Many species have important ornamental value, and chrysanthemum has a deep cultural foundation in China. In addition, the medicinal plant resources of Asteraceae are very rich, and many species have important economic value or ecological value.
In China, Asteraceae is also the largest plant group. Flora of China records 248 genera and 2,236 species of Asteraceae in China. In recent years, due to the in-depth development of field work and the application of molecular systematics, there have been many new advances in the classification of Asteraceae in China, mainly in the following aspects: the discovery and description of new species (about 158 ??species); changes in scientific names (including the redefinition or adjustment of the scope of some genera, changes in the classification system positions of some taxa; some taxa have been merged; some taxa were once wrongly merged and later restored to species status) (about 199); the discovery of new record species or the existence of missed species (about 80); some species have been proven to have no distribution in China (16). The Color Atlas of Asteraceae in China strives to reflect the latest taxonomic treatment, and tries to include new species and new record species not recorded in the flora, and also records the commonly cultivated or naturalized alien species (about 164 species). This book systematically summarizes the current progress of the taxonomic research of Asteraceae in China. The list records that Asteraceae plants in China include 296 genera and 2533 species, of which 279 genera and 1830 species (including 23 subspecies or variants) are included in pictures and text descriptions, and 2 to 4 color pictures are generally provided for each species (the color pictures indicate the origin to the county level). This book also makes some taxonomic treatments, proposes 28 new combinations or new synonyms, and reports 3 new Chinese record species for the first time (Everest Fragrant Green, Small Flower Achillea, Southern Mountain Coriander). This is extremely rare in the current taxonomic monographs related to Asteraceae, and it is even harder to find in illustrated books. The publication of this book will greatly promote the taxonomic research of Asteraceae in China, provide accurate scientific data for the resource development and sustainable utilization of Asteraceae plants, and lay a good foundation for the research on plant diversity protection.
