In 1992, Jiuzhaigou was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List for its lakes, waterfalls, colorful travertine landforms, and unique cultural characteristics. Within the IUCN protected area classification system, Jiuzhaigou is categorized as a Category V protected area (Protected Landscape/Seascape). Diatoms are a major group of eukaryotic microalgae organisms possessing a nucleus enclosed by a nuclear membrane and are among the most common photosynthetic organisms (capable of synthesizing organic matter independently, much like plants). They constitute a vital biological group for sustaining the unique travertine ecosystems found in these aquatic habitats. Due to the high species diversity of diatoms and the specialized expertise required for their identification, research on the diatoms of Jiuzhaigou has been limited, and existing studies lack systematic comprehensiveness. *Atlas of Diatoms of Jiuzhaigou National Nature Reserve* provides a systematic catalog of the diatom resources within the reserve; each species entry includes photomicrographs and is supported by a species index to facilitate identification. Additionally, the atlas offers readers both domestic and international a brief overview of the Jiuzhaigou National Nature Reserve and introduces fundamental biological concepts regarding diatoms.
