Casabona, Dyckman e la flora di Creta. 2024. (Fuori Collana). illus. 72 p. Paper bd.- In Italian.

What connects the Botanical Garden and Museum of Pisa to the Island of Crete? The plants that grow on this island have always attracted the attention of naturalists due to their variety and uniqueness. The Flemish Joseph Goedenhuyze, prefect of the Pisan institution at the end of the 16th century, explored the Island of Crete between 1590 and 1591 under the commission of the Grand Duke of Tuscany, Ferdinando I. During his stay, he met Georg Dyckman, a German soldier with artistic skills, and hired him to draw live depictions of the most significant plants collected during his excursions.

All the plants depicted in the Dyckman's illustrations from the manuscript n. 462 Icones variarum plantarum, preserved at the University Library of Pisa, have been re-identified by the authors of this catalogue. As a perfect synthesis of Art and Science, they offer a fairly precise idea of the Flora of Crete.
